Redevelopment of a former crop protection manufacturing site in Marseille
Client: SBM Formulation
Thanks to URS' involvement, this urban redevelopment is one of the biggest projects in France which fully complies with the new French environmental regulations.
With 10 years partnership with SBM Formulation, a developer and manufacturer of crop protection products based in France, already under its belt, URS has now produced a comprehensive management plan for the redevelopment of their Marseille site. This follows detailed soil and groundwater investigations previously conducted at the same location.
As part of this project, URS has undertaken field assessments of the environmental state of the site, evaluating a range of suitable remediation technologies and their cost implications, as well as performing quality and health and safety risk assessments to eliminate any residual environmental impact. In addition, we are also liaising with subcontractors and supervising remediation work.
Although the bulk of the remediation work will take place in 2010, further soil vapour extraction and venting phases are scheduled to span over the next two years. URS will also provide environmental management during the excavation phase for the redevelopment of the site.
The urban redevelopment of SBM Formulation's site in Marseille is one of the biggest projects in France which fully complies with the new French regulations for soil and groundwater, from environmental diagnosis to final redevelopment. As a result, the French environmental agency has appraised URS' quality work and delivery, and has asked us to present this detailed case study to their environmental department staff.
