Fire safety assessment for the World Trade Centre in Dresden

In addition to providing divestiture consultancy services during the sale of Dresden’s World Trade Centre, URS reviewed the Fire Safety Management systems.

The World Trade Centre in the heart of Dresden, a city in the east of Germany, represents a centre for international business, exhibitions, office services, conferences and congresses.

Approximately 100 companies house a collective staff of 3,000 individuals in this iconic building, whose floor plan is about 100,000 m². The safety of these employees, as well as that of the numerous day visitors, is of the utmost importance to B&L Real Estate, the property and asset management company who owns this prestigious building.

URS was commissioned by the client to identify any potential for improving the Fire Management System. We reviewed previous surveys, and building materials and their fire resistance capabilities. The firewall construction, fire doors, sprinkler systems and emergency exit routes were also assessed. URS recommended a number of structural alterations, which were subsequently implemented on time and within budget, causing minimum disturbance to normal building operations.

The World Trade Centre has now an improved Fire Management System that should prove attractive to potential acquirers.
