URS launched its nuclear power services offering during the commercialisation of nuclear technology in the 1960s; we have engineered / constructed more than 35,000 megawatts of nuclear power. Our staff have accomplished thousands of life-extension modifications for more than 100 operating units and we offer a comprehensive, responsive maintenance programme for nuclear plants.Globally, URS has been the architect, engineer or constructor of record for 49 commercial nuclear generating units, including boiling water reactors (BWR) and pressurised water reactors (PWR).
A URS-led consortium, Nuclear Management Partners, Ltd., manages and operates the reprocessing and waste storage facilities at Sellafield, one of the largest, most complex nuclear sites in the United Kingdom, storing and treating nuclear waste from both the UK’s military and civil nuclear programmes.
Operating in a joint venture with AREVA Group, URS is one of only two U.S. companies providing construction support services for large component replacements like steam generators and reactor vessel heads for the commercial nuclear market. Our joint venture, SGT, has been recognised for its award-winning performance under the most aggressive project schedules during outages.
URS has provided planning, engineering or construction services for virtually every nuclear power plant operating in the United States today, including environmental studies, siting and licensing services.
